How to use this tool

  1. Load the PDF and choose a preset or custom margin.
  2. Enter 1 to 50 mm and page selection; a blank field applies to all pages.
  3. Check the new paper size and test links or forms separately.

An example you can verify

Create outer space for binding or annotating a document.

Example input

210 × 297 mm A4 sheet; 5 mm margin per side.

Expected result

Approximately 220 × 307 mm sheet with content at its previous size.

Contents are not scaled to fit. Check links, forms and annotations after adding margins.

Add PDF margins: uses and practical guidance

Adding PDF margins enlarges sheets to create space around existing content. This is useful when a scan runs too close to the edge or when additional outside space is needed for notes and stamps. The resulting page is larger: the existing content is placed on a new sheet without being scaled. That behaviour differs from shrinking an image or merely changing the zoom level in a PDF viewer.

Consider final dimensions before processing. A sheet measuring 210 by 297 millimetres becomes 220 by 307 millimetres when five millimetres are added along each edge. If your printer uses A4 paper, its fitting settings may shrink the entire result again to make it fit. Check print scaling rather than assuming the enlarged dimensions will be preserved on paper. Mixed page sizes also deserve individual inspection to ensure margins behave as intended throughout the file.

Rebuilding pages can affect form fields, links, annotations and signatures. Test those features in the downloaded copy when the document needs to remain interactive. Inspect content placement and confirm that the new space is suitable for the intended notes or marks. Additional margins cannot recover text missing from the original scan or automatically straighten a tilted page. Keep the source document, and perform any required orientation or sequence corrections before preparing the final outside space for delivery or printing.

A practical check before using the result

For annotation space, calculate the required width and inspect the new total dimensions of a representative sheet. Compare them with available paper before processing the whole document for print. An enlargement useful on screen may trigger automatic print fitting that narrows the apparent space again. Also test a page containing links or fields in the download. This trial helps determine whether reconstruction suits the intended use, beyond checking its visible outside border. When printing settings scale the sheet, distinguish the PDF’s actual dimensions from the size produced on paper.

Settings and limits

Choose 1 to 50 mm and pages. Larger sheets are created; forms, links, annotations or signatures may be lost.

Up to 120 MB and 300 pages. Uniform margin from 1 to 50 mm. Encrypted PDFs are unsupported. Check links, forms, annotations and signatures after editing a document. Available memory may require smaller batches.

Frequently asked questions

Does the sheet keep its original dimensions?

No. Adding 5 mm per edge increases width and height by 10 mm. A printer fitting the result to A4 may shrink its contents.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your file and result are processed locally in your browser. No account is needed.
