The page grows around its contents
Adding margins creates a larger sheet and places the original contents inside an equal white border. Page count and order remain the same.
A 10 mm margin adds 20 mm to total width and 20 mm to total height. Contents do not shrink, although viewers or printers may scale them to fit A4.
Choose a useful measurement
Try 8 to 15 mm for notes or hole punching and test-print one sheet. Allowed values are 1 to 50 mm, equal on all four sides.
Select pages such as 1,3,5-8 or leave selection blank for all. For groups with different measurements, perform separate operations.
- Finalize order, orientation and page selection first.
- Load the PDF and choose pages and millimeters.
- Create a copy and check centering and dimensions.
- Add numbers, logos or watermarks afterward on the final version.
Forms, links and signatures
Selected sheets are reconstructed inside new pages. Appearance may survive while a form, annotation, link, attachment or signature loses its behavior.
Editing a signed PDF can invalidate its signature. Preserve the original and test needed features, not just visual appearance. The output may also be larger: this operation does not compress.
Margins, cropping and empty sheets
Inserting blank pages creates additional sheets; adding margins enlarges existing sheets. Cropping reduces the visible area. Choose according to your intended result.
Processing is local and supports up to 300 pages. Device memory also limits complex files. Check rotated sheets and test printer scaling before the full batch.
Criteria for reviewing and delivering the result
Calculate paper enlargement before preparing print output. A sheet growing along both sides may no longer match the printer’s available paper. Automatic fitting also changes apparent annotation space. Decide whether the PDF will be read on screen, printed at actual size or fitted to paper. Those alternatives can justify different measurements for identical source content. The intended medium should guide the margin decision rather than only the preview’s visual balance.
Test a text page and one with interactive elements when present. Check placement on the larger sheet and inspect downloaded links, fields and annotations. If necessary features no longer behave as expected, reconstruction may be unsuitable for that workflow. Preserve the original and prepare alternatives from it instead of accumulating enlargements. Record final dimensions across a collection for consistency. A spacious looking copy must remain useful in its destination: additional margin does not compensate for printing text too small or losing required document functions. Verify both the page appearance and the features recipients actually need before choosing the final version for sharing or printing.
Create 5 mm of outer space
Load the sample and choose a custom 5 mm margin. Leave the page selection blank to apply it to the whole document.
Each A4 sheet changes from approximately 210 × 297 mm to 220 × 307 mm. Text retains its size: new space is added around it.
Check dimensions when printing. A printer set to A4 may shrink the expanded sheet; check any form fields or links separately.
