How to use this tool

  1. Choose integer start, step and count.
  2. Set minimum digits if leading zeros are needed.
  3. Generate, check first and last values, then copy or download the list.

An example you can verify

Prepare five identifiers with matching text width.

Example input

Start: 1. Step: 1. Count: 5.

SettingsPadding: 3 digits.

Expected result

001
002
003
004
005

Zeros are formatting rather than part of the mathematical value. Import as text in a spreadsheet to retain them.

Numeric sequence generator: uses and practical guidance

Generating a numeric sequence creates an integer list advancing by a constant step. The first result equals the chosen start, and each subsequent value adds the same increment to its predecessor. A start of 1, step of 1 and count of 5 produce values from one through five. The step can be negative for a descending sequence or zero to repeat the initial value. Count determines how many rows are produced rather than the final number in the sequence. This distinction matters when the start is not one or when the increment is larger than a single unit.

Zero padding sets a minimum number of digits for the numeric part. With three digits, 1 is displayed as 001 and 20 as 020. A value already containing more digits is not truncated. A negative sign appears before the padding and does not count as a digit: minus one with three digits is written -001. Prefixes, suffixes and thousands separators are not added. For labels such as invoice-001, generate the sequence first and continue with the line-prefix and suffix tool after copying or downloading the list. Keep a copy between tools because content is not transferred automatically.

Values are exact integers within the supported limits. Start and step accept magnitudes up to 10^12 and do not accept fractional values or exponential notation in these fields. The last value is checked to avoid exceeding the browser's safe integer range. The tool does not generate random numbers, create globally unique identifiers or know which sequences have been used by another session or system. Identical settings produce identical lists. When identifiers are required for a shared database, coordinate assignment with the system maintaining that registry rather than assuming a locally generated sequence is unused elsewhere.

Output is text with one value per line, suitable for an editor or for import as a column. A spreadsheet may remove leading zeros when it interprets entries as numbers. Select a text column before import if identifier width must be retained. Check the first value, last value and row count using a short example before generating a larger list. Up to ten thousand results and twenty padding digits are supported. A sequence is not stored in an account and does not automatically continue from a previous generation. Retain settings and output when exact reproduction matters, and inspect the destination after import to confirm that ordering and formatting remained intact.

Settings and limits

Choose an integer start, an increment and 1–10,000 values. A negative increment creates a descending sequence; zero repeats the start. Padding accepts 0–20 digits and excludes the sign. Output has one value per line. Start and step support magnitudes up to one trillion (10^12).

Frequently asked questions

Do leading zeros change numeric values?

No. They are text formatting. A spreadsheet may remove them when it interprets the column as numbers.
