How to use this tool

  1. Select HEX, RGB or HSL as the input format.
  2. Enter an opaque color using values for that format.
  3. Compare the preview and rounded values before using them in a design.

An example you can verify

Translate an opaque color between representations used in CSS and design.

Example input

#ff0000

SettingsInput format: HEX.

Expected result

HEX #FF0000; RGB rgb(255, 0, 0); HSL hsl(0, 100%, 50%).

An alpha channel is not processed. RGB channels and HSL values are rounded as described by the conversion.

Color converter: uses and practical guidance

Converting colours between HEX, RGB and HSL expresses the same choice in the notation used by an editor or stylesheet. HEX encodes channels with hexadecimal digits, RGB describes red, green and blue, and HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness. The tool transforms these representations within its accepted formats. It does not change an entire image or analyze colours from an uploaded photograph. Supply a colour value rather than a visual file.

Check the selected input format before pasting. Short HEX has three digits and full HEX has six. RGB channels range from zero to two hundred fifty five. HSL saturation and lightness use percentages within their supported range. Alpha channels and other colour space notations should not be assumed compatible when the form only specifies these formats. A valid value in another design tool may need a supported representation before conversion here.

HSL output is rounded, so a round trip may not reproduce every initial component exactly. Retain a reference value when brand work requires a particular specification. Appearance also depends on display and context; changing notation does not guarantee print equivalence or preserve professional colour profiles. Use an appropriate colour management workflow for printed material rather than treating a screen preview as evidence that every reproduction will match.

Review the code and preview against the intended background. Two attractive colours may have insufficient contrast together. This converter does not evaluate accessibility or verify contrast ratios. Color palette generates lighter and darker variants from a base. Store values with their roles, such as background, text or accent, to avoid exchanging technically valid codes that serve different purposes in the design. The receiving context determines whether the converted representation is useful.

A practical check before using the result

For a stylesheet, copy a sample in each accepted notation and confirm the intended colour in the destination browser. Retain the original reference when HSL output is rounded. Review transparency separately because these channels do not automatically include alpha. Test the colour beside actual typography and backgrounds rather than inferring contrast from a HEX number. Store values and roles in a shared reference when several pages follow one identity. Valid notation makes colour entry easier, but use still requires visual decisions and contextual checks. Compare the implemented element, not only an isolated swatch, to determine whether the converted value preserves the intended effect across the complete design.

Continue your task

Download the result or copy the text before opening another tool. Then load or paste it into the next step; content is not transferred automatically.

Prepare a color palette

Create shades from a HEX color and get their RGB and HSL values.

Settings and limits

Choose a format and enter an opaque color. For example: #3659D9, rgb(54, 89, 217) or hsl(227, 68%, 53%). RGB channels are rounded to integers; HSL is rounded to degrees and percentages.
