How to use this tool

  1. Paste the exact text whose digest you need.
  2. Generate the digest of its UTF-8 bytes.
  3. Compare all 64 hexadecimal characters; check whitespace if digests differ.

An example you can verify

Compare the digest of exact text to detect differences between copies.

Example input

abc

Expected result

ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad

A space or line break changes the digest. This is SHA-256 of UTF-8 text, not file verification or encryption.

Settings and limits

The hash covers all UTF-8 bytes, including spaces and line breaks, using Web Crypto. The result contains 64 hexadecimal characters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I decrypt SHA-256 or store passwords with it?

SHA-256 is a hash, not reversible encryption. Password storage requires a specialized salted, cost-based algorithm rather than this simple hash.
